This past weekend, our Post-Graduate Lacrosse team travelled to Rhode Island to compete in the 2012 Post- Graduate Cup.
In the semi-final game on Saturday afternoon, The Hill matched up against Navy Prep. This evenly matched game, proved to be a battle between two very strong and talented programs. Unfortunately, The Hill came up short with a 13-10 loss. Amazing game by Ben Neeb in net. Offensively, the Hill was led by Josh Currier and Kyle Jackson.
Hill Pride, rebounded from its loss on Saturday to a dominant 14-5 win over Bridgton Academy. Strong defensive play from Ray Banister and Henry Elmhurst, successful face-offs by Will Glover, and another strong charge from Josh Currier, were key components to the win.
"This was the first time our PG program beat the Bridgton Academy. It was great to see our boys rebound from our loss on Saturday to wrap up the tournament with a win." - Coach Merrick Thompson
The objective of Hill Pride lacrosse is to develop the individual both athletically as a lacrosse player and personally as a growing and maturing student-athlete. The Hill Pride Lacrosse program follows that of top university programs by implementing 4 hours per week of on field training, a lacrosse specific strength and conditioning program, and participation in high calibre game play.
Hill Pride lacrosse players receive one of a kind training that cannot be received anywhere else. The Hill stands out from other private school programs by providing year-round on and off field training. While a typical private school lacrosse player is not playing until the spring time, a Hill Pride lacrosse player is playing and practicing during the entire school year, giving them the attention and focus that is unique to only The Hill Academy.
It is our expectation that all students in The Hill Academy lacrosse program are committed and dedicated to achieving both academically and athletically. The ultimate goal of The Hill Pride lacrosse program is to have athletes attend university and play lacrosse while attending university. Currently The Hill Academy has alumni attending and playing lacrosse at Canadian universities as well as American NCAA schools at the Division I, II, and III levels.
The Hill Academy recruits players that are first and foremost quality people. A Hill Academy prospective student-athlete will be examined for academic, athletic, and personal qualities, all which will be taken into consideration in the admissions process. We don’t necessarily look for all-star athletes, rather all-star attitudes!!
As mentioned before, the ultimate goal of The Hill Academy lacrosse program is to send student-athletes to the next level beyond the Hill, which is university lacrosse. The Hill Academy coaching staff is very focused on reaching out to university programs that best fit the student-athletes of the program. One of the main focuses of The Hill is to create as much exposure as possible to the NCAA for student-athletes. With athletes committed to schools such as Hofstra University, Johns Hopkins University, and Georgetown University, The Hill Academy is quickly becoming known as the premiere development program for lacrosse athletes in the world.
“Preparation breeds confidence.” By implementing and repeating specialized skill development at lacrosse practice throughout the school year, Hill Pride lacrosse players are properly prepared to use their refined skills in game situations. The Hill Pride program believes in creating the “hybrid” lacrosse player which focuses on linking the disciplines of box lacrosse and field lacrosse to create a more complete player.
